Disclaimer & stuff..

Saoss works on Win32, linux and maybe in OS X. 

Saoss may work without fmod (audio) in following operating systems:
 -Beos
 -Mac os
 -Irix
 -Solaris
 -Qnx
 -FreeBSD
For these operating systems, try changing #define AUDIO_FMOD to #define AUDIO_NONE  in audio.h , install SDL, SDL_Image and SDL_Net
and run "make" in saoss directory. (use full version with source codes)


This program is freeware, you can use the program without a charge for non-profit purposes, namely personal gaming.

This program can be distributed only in it's complete form in original package.
Source code is for compiling in linux and may not be used for own purposes without our permission.

We take no responsibility of what saoss might do to your computer, yourself, your family etc.

Minimun system requirements
---------------------------
-8 Mb 3d-graphics card with OpenGl support.
-if your graphics card less than 16 Mb of memory or doesn't have support for  large textures (voodoo3 etc), set 256*256 texture limit by changing mode256=0; -> mode256=1; in sets.txt 
-A sound card for game sounds.

Recommended system specs
------------------------
-32 Mt fast graphics card, only required for high resolutions and details.
-500 Mhz CPU for 2-6 player games (Tested with p3 500 Mhz Tnt 16 MB) 
-0.7-2 Ghz for 8-16 player games

-Joining games
   -128 kbit/sec network bandwith (download)
   -16 kbit/sec (upload)
   -low latency times (Tested and created in LAN)
-Hosting games
   -16 kbit/sec * number_of_clients (download)
   -128 kbit/sec * number_of_clients (upload)
   -low latency times

Saoss was mainly tested with 2.8 Ghz p4, radeon 8500, 1024 MB ddr 
 & 2.1 Ghz Athlon XP, gf2ti, 768 sdr. Saoss uses tcp-port 9999 for all network traffic
 clients should work fine behind NAT.

Installing and Running Saoss
----------------------------

There is 3 different packages available. Win32, Linux compiled version (i586) and full version with source codes.
These packets can be downloaded from http://www.hut.fi/~pselin/saoss/

Win32 version: saosswin32.exe and run saoss from Start-menu.

linux: 
 after unpacking
  -i586: Install SDL, SDL_Image, SDL_Net and fmod _or_ 
          a) open your /etc/ld.so.conf -file
          b) pick one of directories listed there
          c) copy saoss/lib/*.* to that directory
          d) run ./saoss
  -other: a) Install SDL, SDL_Image, SDL_net and fmod. If you fail to do install these, 
              try i586 version installation for libraries.
	  b) Compile saoss by typing make in the saoss directory. 
          c) type ./saoss in the saoss directory


TroubleShooting
---------------
If the game does not start, try editing sets.txt.

If some textures don't work or the main menu is weird edit sets.txt 
 "mode256=0;" -> "mode256=1;"


About Computer Opponents
------------------------
Computer opponents were coded for testing purposes and can offer some fight back in
deatmatch modes only. You can select computer opponents to other game modes too, but
they really don't know what they are doing =)

Ship 1:
-Special weapon is shield against any weapon

Ship 2:
-Special weapon is circle of bullets

Ship 3:
-Special weapon is self-destruction.

-Special weapon is fuel-sucking ball
-Main weapon is launched when fire-button is pressed. The bullet will move fordward until the key is released

Ship 6:
-Special weapon is sending your crew to hunt enemy. Remember that it is off
from your ship energy until they come back.

Ship 7:
-Gravity has no effect to this ship
-Special weapon is teleport

Ship 8:
-Special weapon is short range self-defence system. Fires bullets & enemies with lasers.

-Special weapon is black hole that sucks almost everything :)

Ship 11:
-Special weapon is noise for tempting enemy crew to space. Afterwards they can be collected by any ship.

Ship 12:
-Special weapon is to transform between 2 ships

-This ship has no fuel regeneration ability. Special weapon is to create fuel.
-This ship has changes to resurrect when it's exploded

Ship 14:
-Main weapon is energy ball. When fire-button is pressed it collects energy to be fired.
 When fire-button is released, the energyball is shot
-Special weapon is slime that slows down enemy

Ship 15:
-Main weapon is missile that can be directed by ship steering controls
-Special weapon is speed boost
-This ship causes damage to enemy when collided

Ship 16:
-Special weapon is asteroid-mode. In that mode you can cause damage by crashing to enemy.
 This mode cannot be stopped unless the fuel is depleted
