INTRODUCTION

This CD includes almost all the demos on PC released between 06/95 and 06/96,
We made this CD in order to spread the demos wider than through our board,
because a lot of people still don't have any modem access (BBS and/or Inet).
And also to free some HDD space ! :)
Its price is very low because we don't want to make any profit from the scene.
Of course, we *DO* make some profit, but it is all re-invested in a non-profit
association, in order to pay the phone lines and hardware upgrades of the BBS.
It also allow us to offer free email and news access to all french demo groups.
That's why we consider this is NOT a commercial production, because none of us
make any personal profit : all the money is for the board, the best demo scene
support available in France since 1993. We are also giving several CDs for
different parties prices, like Saturne or Wired.

INSTALLATION

Well, there is no installation tool. We suggest that you copy Cubic Player on
your hard drive and put it in your PATH (CP is located in \TOOLS on CD#1).
Get also pkunzip from PKWARE(c) in the same dir, or unzip386.
Copy DOS4GW.EXE on your HD and put it in your path. A lot of demos using
Watcom C need this file. You can get it also in \TOOLS on CD#1.

ABOUT THE CD

Now most of the demos/intros do not create any file on the media, and you can
run them directly from the CD. If the demo does create a file, the only way to
solve the problem is to copy it on your hard drive ! (or perhaps to play with
this damn ASSIGN and SUSBT things ... ;) )
Note that when a demo is asking a setup written on the disk, we usually made a
default config using a Gravis soundcard with IRQ:7 DMA:5. If your config is
different, you must copy the demo on your HD and rerun the setup program.

Almost all the tunes on CD#2 are packed in order to put more of them on CD.
To play them without copying the files on your hard drive, use for example
Cubic Player, which allow you to play packed modules. Don't forget to create an
environment variable called TEMP, used by the player to unpack the files.

add in your autoexec.bat the following line:

SET TEMP=C:\TMP

We created a TREEINFO.NCD for faster access with Norton Commander, which is
definitly the best PC utility (located in each root directory).
If you don't have Norton Commander (what a mistake!), you can use 'C' by
Insomnia, or Volkov Commander, both located in \TOOLS of CD#1. It will allow
you to easily look inside .ZIP files to get infos.

The CD Interface and some demos are running in VESA mode. If your card is not
VESA, you can use UNIVBE drivers from the file UVBE52.ZIP located in CD#1
\TOOLS dir.

USING THE INTERFACE

We included a first version of our CD interface, just insert one of the CDs
and type 'CDC'.
It will allow you to travel through the directories and see the file_id of
every prod. And then you can install it on your HD.
This version is limited, we occured several bugs while trying to run demos
from the interface. We hope we will be able to fix it for the next volume.
It was build to handle a several CD. It will normally detect when you are
changing the CD. But we saw that we got problems with some CD drivers. If your
driver is one of them, run the interface with the 'manual' flag /M. Then use
the 'F1' key when changing the CD.
Use /V flag on command line to force a full screen refresh if you notice some
black pixels on the top of the screen when after having installed a prod.
Use /S <drive:> if MSCDEX is not detected correctly. Then use function keys
to switch from one CD to the other.

ex: "cdc /M /S e:"

This would run cdc in 'force refresh' mode and suppress mscdex detection.

                          *CDC requieres a mouse*

THIS IS THE FIRST VERSION OF CDC, QUITE BUGGING! PLEASE REPORT ANY BUG AT:

TROUBLES

Demos/intros are very special productions, some may not run on your system,
some may crash your machine ... it is not our fault !

Hints :
   - some of them will not run under EMM386 or QEMM,
   - some of them got only a GUS replay, so you will not have any sound on your
SoundBlaster ... buy a real card, buy a GUS, it rules !
   - if DOS4GW is the probleme, you can usually replace it by PMODEW by TRAN.
For this, take the file PMW122.ZIP from \PMODE dir on CD#2. Unzip files
PMODEW.EXE and PMWBIND.EXE, and use the PMWBIND utility this the following
     command line:

                       PMWBIND /R <filename.exe>

The demo should now use PMODEW. This usually works fine. Of course you
can not do this directly on the CDROM ;-)

All this distribution was scanned against virus with the latest anti-virus
available. But there *MAY* be still some unknown virus left, so you MUST learn
how to protect yourself, by always having a recent antivirus. This is true for
every CD-ROM or non-commercial program you could get. We included lastest
versions of SCAN and FPROT in TOOLS dir.
